George Jannings died from wounds on 2nd March, 1915, after having been brought back to the United Kingdom but as yet, there is no information, as to when and where he was wounded. The 9th London battalion had arrived in France in November, 1914 to join 13 Brigade of 5th Division and on 30th December they went into the front line trenches at Wulverghem, just south of Messines in Belgium. The trenches here were close to the River Douvre and consequently were often flooded and up to the men’s waists in places.
